I've been thinking a lot about where I want to put my energy — and I'm intentionally stepping back from the grid and most shows to focus on what feels most aligned for the summer: creating new work and everything else that lights me up.
This summer, I'll be focused on making new work that will take me back to my art school days while weaving in traditional metals techniques as well as ritual and meaning. When I'm not in the studio I'll be at the beach playing in the ocean, working on craft and art projects and doing more of what I love beyond the bench.
May has already been filled with so much inspiration and magic. If you live in LA or are coming to visit, the new Geffen Galleries at LACMA are one of my new favorite places. The space really invites you to wander through familiar work, along with discovering new things.
Tino Seghal's "constructed situations" performance piece is on view. It's one of my favorite art experiences. We saw it at the Leeum in Seoul and it was such a different experience to see it in both spaces. Give yourself time to just sit and enjoy it if you can. I've seen it two times here and still want to go back again.
I've also been trying to surf more and got to go camping at San Elijo State Beach again this past weekend. I had so much fun and had my best day surfing yet.
My morning rituals have been a mix of neighborhood and beach walks, yoga, meditation, and tarot and oracle card readings. The cards pictured are from a newer deck called Crystal Keys Tarot. I'm loving the combination of crystal and tarot energy so much.
Comment and let me know if you've been to LACMA since it reopened and what you thought. Or let me know what's bringing you joy in this crazy world we're all living in.
With the stepping back from in person shows be sure to sign up for my Studio Letters Newsletter List.
