Diamond - The Birthstone For April

Diamond - The Birthstone For April

Diamonds are beautiful and sparkling, and they're also hard, durable, and take a long time to form. And that's how we like to think of everyone born in April: beautiful, resilient and powerful.

The Meaning of Diamond

Diamond is the birthstone for those born in April. It is said to be a symbol of faith, and love. The diamond is also said to be the ultimate gift of love.

In ancient times diamonds were thought to contain lightning, which was released by rubbing it with wool. The Greeks believed it was tears from the Gods and splinters from stars. The Romans believed that Cupid’s arrows were tipped with diamonds, as they would bring love and passion to those who received them.

The name "diamond" comes from the Greek word, "adamas", which means unconquerable and indestructible. It is a symbol of innocence and eternal love. Because diamonds have been found in different colors, there was once a time when every color represented something different. But now, diamonds are generally accepted as a symbol of everlasting love.

It is said that diamonds have a powerful spiritual energy which can help people feel more connected to the earth, light, and the universe around them. They are also thought to strengthen relationships and friendships when given as gifts.

What’s So Special About Diamond?

Diamond is the hardest known natural substance. It is 58 times harder than anything else in nature.

In fact, it is so hard that it can only be scratched by another diamond. That's not to say that diamonds are indestructible, but they are extremely difficult to damage under normal circumstances.

Diamonds are made of pure carbon, which is a very common element on Earth occurring in all living things and in most rocks.

Carbon needs heat and pressure to crystallize into diamond and those conditions would have been present about 150km below the Earth's surface over 3 billion years ago where diamonds were formed deep within the earth’s mantle. Diamond crystals grow gradually over millions of years as more and more carbon atoms join together.
