My monthly reading recap for August

Tiffany Haddish's book The Last Black Unicorn has been on my to read list for a while now and this month I listened to it on Audible. It was really amazing to hear more about her life and what led her to where she is now. She's such a hilarious comedian and she's been through hell and worked so hard.
Next I read Yung Pueblo's book Inward. I first found his work on Instagram then bought his book after he came for an event at Unplug Meditation. This book was one I read before I went to bed at night. It was a really beautiful book of poetry and prose. I used to love reading and writing poetry so I've been trying to get back to reading more poetry.
The last book I haven't finished yet but I'm already in love. I heard Robin Wall Kimmerer on the On Being podcast so I just had to read her book Braiding Sweetgrass. The combination of her scientific background, indigenous knowledge and personal stories make this a book I will read over and over. I'm learning so much about the knowledge and stories of plants, animals and the land. So much of this wisdom has been lost with the history of America and how the Native American tribes and people have been treated. I feel lucky to learn some of the stories from this book. It seems like our relationship with the earth and all living things could be so much better if we listened to their wisdom from the beginning instead of trying to conquer and convert. We need to take better care of this place we call home and reading this book feels like a step in the right direction.
